We got a cab pretty fast & reached at 815am, just in time for the check-in by our tour leader, Prissila. After she helped us with the check-in, we still had some time left.
Breakfast was at T1's staff canteen. Beehoon & soya bean drink. We didn't want to eat too much since there'll be lunch served on the plane.
After breakfast, we did a quick trip on the Skytrain from T1 to T2 and then back to T1 again, just to satisfy Baby G's craving for a ride on the Skytrain.
We were on China Airlines, flight CI752. My first time on China Airlines, and I must say.... service was pretty lacking. Lunch was either beef & mashed potatoes or chicken with rice. My choice was definitely with the beef & the chicken was for Baby G & Daddy. They actually ran out of chicken dishes & poor Baby G & Daddy had to wait an additional 20mins for their lunch to be served. They kept telling us that they were heating up the food.... but 20mins to heat up?? Ridiculous. The flight attendants looked to be flustered as I believe we were not the only ones who haven't gotten their lunch.
In the end, I think they took some of the meals from First-Class as suddenly, we were given Curry chicken and Fish in Tomato... totally different from what was told to us. All I can say is that I don't think I'll be travelling by China Airlines if given a choice.
After almost 5hrs.... we have finally arrived on Taiwanese soil...... there's a sense of anticipation for the beginning of our holiday adventure.
We gathered around and waited for the entire group to assemble. We had a Taiwanese tour guide accompanying us. I also had a chance to make friends with one of our tour kakis.
Upon our arrival, we drove to have our dinner at the "Five Cents Driftwood" (伍角船板). Food was served on handmade pottery designed by the owner. Everything about the place is full of beautifully crafted sculptures. Food was generally ok, a tad oily for our tastebuds. I think when one dines here, it is not really for the food but the surroundings & ambience.
There's even a little pond in the middle of the restaurant. It caught Baby G's attention, especially all the fishes that were swimming around.
After our dinner, we hopped onto the bus again to head down to Feng-Jia Night Market (逢甲夜市) for some shopping and snacking. As we just had dinner, we decided to shop around first.
As it was the autumn season now, most of the clothes were meant more for the coming winter. Not really suitable for S'pore's weather. Nothing really caught my eye. So end up, I only bought a pair of sunglasses for myself & Baby G. Don't you think he looks kinda cool in them. And it only costs both of us NT150 (about SGD6.50).
As there wasn't many things to buy, decided to start our snacking blitz. We first tried their highly recommended 大肠包小肠. Baby G enjoyed it a lot. He gave it 2 thumbs-up.
Our 1st hotel was Evergreen Laurel. The rooms were pretty spacious, each of us had one queen-sized bed to ourselves except for Baby G who had the extra bed. Very comfy room although forgot to take a photo of the room.
And that ends our first day in Taiwan.........
