A Typical Day After Work

A typical day after work for me is to pick Baby G up from childcare and start preparing dinner.. or rather cook the rice & heat up the tingkat food.

While I'm busy with the 'cooking', Baby G will be amusing himself with his array of toys. You never know which of his toys he'll be wanting to play. Normally, I try not to switch on the TV to keep him occupied, so I let him run around the living room & play with his toys. Sometimes, while the rice is cooking & the food is warming up, I will peep to see what he's up to. There are times when he wants to help out in the kitchen so I have to give him simple chores to do, like take out the crockery or ask him to take down the clothes and keep them.

One of the days, he was searching the cabinets and found his old milk bottle (without the teats) and took it out to play. He was so quiet out in the living room that I got a bit concerned.. wondering what mischief he was up to... and this is what I found.

He was looking after his friends; fed them milk, burped them and asked them if they were full and put them to sleep. Hahaha... what a sight. He took care of all his 4 friends... of course, the most TLC went to his favourite... Froggie....

Hot... Hot... Hot....

The whole of Friday, Baby G's fever hit a high of 39.5deg. Really got me worried, but decided to give it another day before resorting to taking him to the hospital to find out what's wrong.

His whole body was so hot to the touch. Even sponging him didn't help much. And the worst part is he refused his medication. In the end, towards the evening, I "negotiated" with him; he take his medicine and I bring him down to the playground. Even the negotiations itself took at least half an hour to settle.

Finally he went to sleep and I had time to have my dinner. I had a visit from ShuShu, GuGu & YeePo. They knew I was alone so came over to accompany me & see if I needed help while Daddy was busy at work due to some systems cut-over. They stayed with me until Daddy got home which was around 230am.

At 6am, Baby G got up and asked for his milk. So I groggily woke up and made his milk. Needless to say, my head was spinning and simply couldn't keep my eyes open. I didn't even remember to check his temperature at that point in time.

I guess Baby G had enough sleep and was very chatty in the morning, wanted to watch TV together with me. I just accompanied him but fell alseep on the couch. I could hear Baby G talking to me, but I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or he was really talking. At one point, I think he got fed up and shouted his question at me. Hahahaha.....

Finally it dawned on me that he seemed quite well and not so tired as previous days. So I got up and took his temperature and was glad that it was normal. I kept praying that it would stay normal the whole day. My prayers were answered and for the whole of Sat, he was fever-free and full of conversations. He seemed to have so many things to say to me. I only got some rest when Mama came over to play with him. But in the end, both Mama and Baby G fell asleep too.

The past few days, looking after & worrying about Baby G, I realised I actually lost about 1kg. Although I like my new weight, but what a way to lose it. Sigh....

Throat Infection... Not HFMD..... Phew!

Baby G was down with super high fever... temp hovering around mid 38-39degs. On Wed, teacher called me to say that Baby G had a temp of 39deg and wanted us to bring him home, so I flew down in a cab to pick him from school. In the cab, I kept praying that it's not the return of the dreaded HFMD.

I brought him home and immediately gave him the Ibuprofen to quickly bring down the temp. Luckily he didn't resist the medication. I pat him to sleep and he slept for almost 4hrs, waking up only in the evening coz he wet the bed (the pampers overflowed).

He took some porridge and I thought since his appetite is back, he should be on the road of recovery. The next morning, his temp was back to normal but Daddy decided to keep him away from school for 1 more day to rest, so off we sent him to my mum's place.

I kept calling back to my mum to check on his status and I was told that his temp was pretty erratic... sometimes up and sometimes down. When I reached home in the evening, his temp shoot up to 39deg again, so immediately brought him to the doctor. Due to his high temp, we didn't have to wait for our turn and was sent in quickly.

Initially Baby G was pretty cooperative but the moment he saw the 'ice cream stick', he shut his mouth and refused to let the doc check his throat. In the end, I had to hold on to his legs & the nurse held to his head and the doc forced open his mouth to check. Baby G gagged a few times and then cried. The good news is that the doc doesn't think it's HFMD and more likely to be a throat infection. I heaved a sigh of relief. But the worst is not over for Baby G.. doc said he needs to bring down the fever quickly, so he said he needs to insert the pill into Baby G's buttocks. Oh my, Baby G hated it (who wouldn't) and cried so pitifully. Finally, it's over and Baby G got a sticker for all his efforts.. actually I think he deserved more stickers for being such a brave boy!

Went to collect his medication while his Mama, YeeYee & Grandpa pamper & sayang him.

Looks like it's going to be a long night for me...

Please let Baby G get well soon.

Special Egg Toast

In one of my previous blogs (http://gabeboyboy.blogspot.com/2009/03/sembawang-shopping-centre.html), my special egg toast did not turn out as well as I would have liked...

In the end, I decided to fry the egg together with the bread..... guess the end-results is much better than the previous.

==> After frying with butter......

Baby G's wondering why the egg is right smack in the middle of the bread.
Baby G deciding that he doesn't like the egg in the middle so he simply tore the bread away from the egg and ate it directly.

Car Wash

Daddy said our black beauty is very dusty... so off we went to wash our car.

While we were washing, Baby G was mostly playing around with the water. I must say, he did help quite a lot. Later on, he helped to wipe the car dry. Here's Baby G helping us & having fun at the same time....

Fig & Olive @ VivoCity

This is going to be a short blog because I am not feeling well due to the flu bug that I caught from Daddy.

On Friday, we organized a get-together (an overseas request from AY) with our usual group of friends and a special visit from ET & family. We selected on Fig & Olive as it was the only restaurant that would take in reservations on a public holiday. Ambience-wise, not too bad... but service.. sigh.... really left much to be desired.

Some suggestions on how they can improve on their service :-
(1) Serve food together with cutlery, it is really quite unbecoming to eat pasta with our hands.
(2) When taking order, inform us if the pasta we want is unavailable & not keep us guessing.
(3) Do serve promptly & not let us keep asking whether our food is ready.
(4) Do have sufficient forks (their reason for not serving some of the cutlery was that they did not have enough forks and were still in the midst of washing them)

Oh.. there are no pics cause in my hurry to leave the house, I forgot to take my camera along.

Although the restaurant was a disappointment, the company of friends makes the day seem so much better.

The big 3-5

It's recession time... so I decided on a 'recession-budget' celebration. Lunch was at HRC as they were having the $10 recession set lunch promotion. Being at HRC brings back lots of memories for me, it's been a long time since I was there. The place didn't really change much, of course, this time, the music they played were not so familiar, until they started playing music from the 80s... hahahaha....

Food-wise.... I would say so-so... but the coffee was great! I enjoyed my cuppa.

I think it's a luxury to be able to go out eating & shopping without Baby G around.... not that I do not enjoy being with him.... but being able to shop and try out clothes at a leisurely pace is something that doesn't happen very often.

For dinner, we went down to Marina Square's Ryoichi for the $8.60 set dinner with my family. I think it's really worth it and we got complimentary salmon sashimi too for paying with the DBS card. Baby G enjoyed his rice with chawanmushi very much.

==> Baby G finished the entire chawanmushi & 3/4 of the bowl of rice.

To Daddy : thanks for the lunch, dinner & shopping treat
To my family : thanks for the lovely blouse & handbag (i like both) & ang pow (my all-time favourite)

Wall Stickers

Finally had a chance to put up the wall stickers that Hot MaMa helped me order online. Gathered Daddy & Baby G together. Baby G was very excited, but I had to keep reminding him that these were 'special' stickers meant for the wall.... else later he'll be sticking all his 'Thomas The Train' & 'Barney' stickers on the wall.
I was in charge of removing the stickers and passing it to Daddy & Baby G and of course, I'm also the one taking all the pictures. Baby G did mostly the duck designs on his own.
